Synopsis
The establishment of the National Slavery Museum is a historic event, an important step in commemorating and acknowledging the Dutch history of slavery. With a planned opening in 2030 on the Kop van Java island in Amsterdam, the museum appears to be an important step towards reconciliation and awareness. But who is this museum really intended for? Is this what the majority of the Dutch population wants, or does it mainly provoke controversy and polarization? As ambitious plans for an iconic building take shape, the question arises: will those involved succeed in realizing their vision, or will the museum process expose a new divide in society?
This documentary explores how the debate surrounding the museum exposes and reveals tensions. Will it also bring connection, healing, and awareness? Or will the struggle with the history of slavery further deepen the divisions within society?
